I have always wanted to tell everyone that I was gay, but after seeing how gay people are treated, I chickened out. I can't tell my best friends or my mom, since they are huge pentacostal Christians, and believe that homosexuality means you are demon possessed . Plus my mom made it perfectly clear that she would disown one of her kids if she found at they are gay. Her words..."I would pray for them, but have nothing to do with them". It angers me so much, that after advancing so much, people still can't accept others for who they are. The only people who sorta do know are one of my brothers, and sister-in-law, which I really have no idea how they figured it out. As well as some of my friends online that I have told. I live in Alabama, which makes it even harder to come out, it would be like the Salem witch trials if the people here found out there was a "f*g" living in town. I am seriously considering moving to San Francisco when I get older.

Ouch. Yeah. Alabama is an, er, interesting state when it comes to civil rights, as are the other Southern states.
Basically, though, you shouldn't feel compelled to come out to anyone. If you feel you can trust someone, and you feel comfortable telling them, then go ahead. If you don't, then don't tell.
I understand that it's way more difficult and stressful - as well as upsetting - when such narrow-minded people are family or people who are just as close.

Well, I actually just told my mom that I was...eh, bi. I figured telling her that I'm bi, would ease it over more. She surprisingly didn't break out the holy water and crucifix. She wants me to go to therapy though r.r. I talked her out of that. I actually feel a little better that I got all of that off my chest, now I just need to tell the remainder of my siblings...

I have just recently told everyone in my entire city via MySpace Everyone keeps sending me messages about how brave I am and stuff. It is really surprising that they all accept it so lightly! My brothers also apologized for all the times they called me "f*g" or something just being big brothers... My mom is still all for the therapy though r.r Eh, well, guess It couldn't be perfect....

It's not consider any mental instability to be homosexual anymore, so there's not much a psychiatrist can do, besides tell my mom, but she obviously already knows. p.s - Do you know Zephyr from PBS? Your sig reminds me of his PT, but his is a bit funnier, lol. ;D

It's great that you have the majority of your friends and family on your side. Perhaps your brothers can help you win over your mom. As someone who initially came out on the internet as well, I was surprised at how well people took it; I think it helps to have the non- confrontational experience.
