This is my story. It's still in progress. So, when i was 12, i told 2 best friends i was gay, they were both very supportive. Jack and Katie. So, 1 year later, I piss Katie off so much she decides to leak to 3 people that I'm gay, next thing you know, all 2500 people in my School know I'm gay (teachers included) and unfortunatly, my Sister found out. She wen't home saying to my mom "I know something you don't!" She told them. I came home and my mom sat me down and i spilled everything. My dad does not know (He lives on the other side of the world to us so he won't find out anytime soon.) My dad is very, very homophobic. Ta da, my story. A lot of people in my School are al right with me being gay, but a few hundred are bullies

I am also sorry that your dad is homophobic-- it is not easy knowing that someone in your family does not support you. I'm still trying to understand why outing someone is equivalent to punishment, as your friend Katie seemed to think. I believe that this is one of the major obstacles that we are struggling to overcome as a community; that being out shouldn't be a punishment. Thank you for sharing your coming out story with us.

I think outing someone is equivalent to punishment because being outed can cause people to suffer harassment, loss of friendships/family ties, people being horrible to them etc. I'm not sure the issue is that it's a punishment, but rather that the prejudice against LGBT people allow it to be a punishment.
I'm so sorry about what happened to you Austen, that's horrible. I suppose it might be something of a blessing that your dad is a long way away ... How long do you have till school is over?

When I get my bf and tell everyone, I'm making sure he's super strong, so he can punch anyone (in the face) who says anything. Then, to piss them off, kiss 'em. Heheh. Evilness
