StoryFinally. I've been waiting for someone to end this silly policy for a long time now. Really, people should be able to serve in the military without having to worry about what their orientation is, or what the orientation is of the person next to them. Really, it is irrelevant. This is along the same lines of discrimination in the work place, because so many thought it was just that information shouldn't be shared. What they don't realize is if that people were found to be gay, they were beat up and kicked out. People are expressing the concern that this is a negative thing because the information really isn't needed. What are people's thoughts on the law and the decision by Obama?

I don't think the information is necessary either, but a person should be able to share their sexual orientation without getting kicked out.
Being gay or lesbian is not something that influences the ability of a soldier. However, constant fear of being yourself combined with bearing the knowledge of "Hey, I'm not really wanted here. I risk my life for my country, even though my country doesn't think I'm good enough to do that," does.
Seuxal orientation among the troops isn't something we need mapped in a giant database for reference, but it is something one should be able to share if desired.
